THE CARBON TRUST IN SCOTLAND’S SECOND LOW CARBON BUILDING AWARD TO BE PRESENTED AT THE SCOTTISH ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE (SEEC)

In recognition of the significant carbon saving potential that exists within the building sector, the Carbon Trust in Scotland is pleased to announce that it will be presenting its first Low Carbon Building Award to be presented at the Scottish Energy and Environment Conference (SEEC) on the 3 February 2009.

The Carbon Trust is looking for applications from organisations that have within the last two years commissioned or delivered a building in Scotland that has either been built or refurbished in accordance with low carbon design principles. Criteria that will be taken into account by the judges will include, environmental impact particularly energy demand and emissions, sustainability and quality of occupant experience.
Competition rules
1. Entries are invited from organisations that have commissioned or delivered a building in Scotland within the last 2 years that has either been built or refurbished in accordance with low carbon design principles.
2. The closing date for entries for the 2008 Award is 17th of January 2009
3. The Judges' decision shall be final.
What we are looking for
Entries will be judged against the following criteria:
1. Evidence of coordination and early integration of architectural design and services design
2. Exploitation of passive heating, lighting and cooling strategies

3. Environmental impact, particularly energy demand and emissions
4. Sustainability
5. Quality of occupant experience
6. Capital cost and running cost implications.

To submit an entry, please complete a short document in the following format that addresses each of the six following questions;

Q 1 – Describe the project management arrangements to ensure coordination and early integration of architectural design and services design
(Answer – 200-300 words)
Q 2 – How has passive heating, lighting and cooling strategies been exploited in the design of the building
(Answer – 500-800 words)
Q 3 – How does the design of the building impact on energy demand and emissions footprint
(Answer – 300-500 words)
Q 4 – What steps were taken to ensure that the building was constructed in a sustainable fashion?
(Answer – 300-500 words)
Q 5 – What is the feedback on quality of occupant experience?
(Answer – 300-500 words)
Q 6 – How did the design affect the buildings capital cost and what have been the running and whole life cost implications?
(Answer – 300-500 words)
