The BVT Surface Fleet Limited Recycle Re-use Schools Project Competition for Environmental Awareness
BVT Surface Fleet (formely BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions) welcomes the opportunity once again to support the Scottish Energy and Environment Conference. This is an excellent way for the two sites at Govan and Scotstoun to bring together their combined resources to demonstrate their commitment to both this event and the wider issues of best environmental practice. It also allows us to complement the efforts of our other partners in this initiative.
As part of that philosophy and that of business in the community, we are continuing to encourage the involvement of local primary schools in environmental affairs by involving employees in visits to participating primary schools. The BVT Surface Fleet School's Environmental Recycling Competition looks set to be an even greater success than previous year's projects, such as the environmental poster competition, which was run 4 years ago. The theme then moved to recycling and reuse. The number of innovative ideas have been created from items that would normally be discarded has been phenomenal and competition is very keen. This illustrates the emerging interest in environmental affairs from an early age - preparing them to take on the environmental concerns of tomorrow. It has now moved on to creating a design to be printed on the front of a cotton bag for life and in 2007, this competition was very successful and last years winning entry by Stewart Dalzeil from Clarkston Primary School can be seen below:

On a broader front, our involvement with local environmental forums such as Renfrewshire Energy and Environment Forum (REEF), ensures that the business remains up to date, giving the company the opportunity to spread best practice both across our sector and the wider business community generally. Our valued contacts with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Scottish Office help us anticipate future initiatives and build that into the company strategy as one of our core objectives.
All of this complements BVT Surface Fleet’s dedication as a systems company innovating for a safer world, using the power of our people, partnerships, and the wider community to achieve that aim.
